🌸 Jasmine nitidum – Star Jasmine Climber

The Jasmine nitidum, also known as Star Jasmine, is a vigorous, evergreen climber admired for its glossy foliage and beautifully fragrant white flowers. Because of its elegant growth habit and long flowering season, it’s a favourite among gardeners and landscapers across South Africa. This plant adds a touch of tropical charm and timeless beauty to any garden, patio, or trellis.

🌿 Distinctive Features

The Jasmine nitidum produces clusters of white star‑shaped flowers with five slender petals and a soft yellow centre. Pinkish‑red buds open gradually, creating a stunning contrast against the plant’s dark green, glossy leaves. The foliage is dense and lush, providing excellent coverage for fences, pergolas, and garden walls. Moreover, its sweet fragrance fills the air, making it ideal for outdoor living spaces and relaxation areas.

🌱 Growth & Care

• Light: Full sun to partial shade
• Water: Moderate watering; keep soil evenly moist but well‑drained
• Soil: Rich, compost‑enhanced mix
• Maintenance: Light pruning after flowering encourages new growth
• Climate: Perfect for South African subtropical and coastal regions

Because the Jasmine nitidum adapts easily to different conditions, it thrives in both containers and garden beds. Regular feeding during spring and summer promotes abundant flowering and healthy foliage. As a result, the plant remains vibrant and fragrant throughout the year.

🏡 Landscape Use

Use Star Jasmine to soften walls, fences, or pergolas. Its glossy leaves and fragrant flowers pair beautifully with other climbers and flowering shrubs. In addition, it’s an excellent choice for patios, courtyards, and garden entrances, adding colour, scent, and elegance to any space.
