1000 x 250 - The Timeless Beauty of Roses
The timeless beauty of Roses
Known for their beautiful flowers and lovely scent, roses are a popular choice for gardeners around the world. With a little time and effort, you can also boast about your beautiful rose garden.

Roses should be planted in a sunny area as they need at least six hours of full sun per day.
Watering
Watering roses is one of the most important aspects of rose care as it has a direct influence on the health and growth of rose plants.

To thrive, it is ideal to water roses deeply in the morning. Roses are preferably watered so that water does not get on the rose petals and thus prevents the risk of fungal diseases.

A general guideline is to water roses deeply once a week, especially during dry periods. It is essential to make sure that the soil does not dry out, but excessive watering can also cause damage.
Pruning
Sprayfilm 100ml
Mycoguard 720 500ml
Tenazole Systemic Fungicide 100ml
Copper Flow Plus 100ml
Pruning roses is an important part of rose care to keep the plant healthy and stimulate new growth.

Roses should be pruned in early spring, just before the growing season starts. Remove dead or damaged branches as well as crossed branches that grow inwards.

Roses should always be pruned in the shape of a cup or receiving hands to ensure that the center of the plant is open. This will improve the absorption of light as well as the movement of air through the plant which helps to reduce diseases.

The second part of the pruning process is the cutting back of healthy stems.

With roses, 3, 5 or 7 healthy young stems growing from the base should always be retained. This will give the plant a good shape. All other branches must be cut off. After that, the stems that have been retained on the plant must be cut back by two-thirds.

Make a diagonal cut just above a healthy eye or growth point that points outwards. The cut should point away from the eye to prevent moisture from accumulating there which can cause disease at the growth point.

Always use sharp pruning shears that cut cleanly. Cracked, bruised pruning wounds promote the spread of fungal infections. It is also important to disinfect your pruning equipment well before you start pruning the next plant to avoid the spread of fungi. A mixture of 5 ml Jeyes Fluid per 1 liter of water works well as a disinfectant for garden tools.

Sprayfilm 10 can be used to seal pruning wounds. It is impractical to seal all the wounds one by one, especially if you have a large garden with many roses to prune. A more practical way is to mix Sprayfilm 10 with a fungicide and then spray your plants with it until run-off. Mix Sprayfilm 10 with a systemic fungicide such as Tenazole, or a contact fungicide such as Mycoguard or Copper-Flow-Plus.

Mycoguard, Copper-Flow-Plus and Tenazole provide preventive control, but Tenazole provides additional corrective control. Sprayfilm 10 forms a protective layer over the pruning wounds and the fungicide prevents the germination and spread of fungal infections on the wounds. Remove dead flowers, not only will your garden look neater, but it will also encourage the production of new shoots. Do not pick more than 50% of the flowers at a time, instead pick when more flowers are produced.
Nutrition
Guanoflo 5L
Gwano Pellets 4kg
Rose & Flower Fertilizer 10kg
Stimulate root development and new growth after winter, especially after pruning with a balanced fertiliser such as General Fertilizer 2.3.2 or, for an organic option, NutriGreen Gwano Pellets which are rich in phosphate.

If you want to ensure that your roses bear very healthy flowers, it is advisable to start feeding your plants 4 weeks after you have pruned them. Use fertilizers specifically formulated for roses that are rich in nitrogen, phosphates and potassium. These three nutrients are important for developing strong roots, healthy leaves and producing lots of flowers.

Apply Rose & Flower Fertilizer 8:1:5, or for an organic option, NutriGreen Flower Power.

Feed every 4 weeks with Rose & Flower Fertilizer 8:1:5 or NutriGreen Flower Power. For fast results, apply Guanoflo as a foliar spray every 2 weeks. Dilute 1 liter of Guanoflo in 40 liters of water and treat plants every 2 weeks for best results. It can be applied directly to the soil or as a foliar feed and will not burn your plants.

Guanosol is available in a convenient pill form and is very simple to use! Place 1 to 3 pills per pot or plant. Nutrients are slowly released and can feed your plants for up to 3 months. It contains both macro and micro elements which are essential for healthy growth, root, leaf and flower formation.
Protection
Roses are susceptible to attacks by a variety of insect and fungi that harm the health of plants.
Insects
Rose Guard 100ml
Imidor 350 SC Citrus & Roses
Complete 350 SC 1L New
Red spider mites are microscopic pests that cause red or brown lesions on the leaves and lead to the loss of leaves and fewer flowers. Protek’s Rose Guard provides protection against this pest. It has a contact insecticide as well as a contact and systemic fungicide formulation.

Aphids are small, sap-sucking insects that secrete a powdery wax to protect themselves. They thrive in hot humid conditions and cause damage by sucking sap from their host plants. They secrete honeydew which is collected by ants. The leaves turn yellow and eventually fall from the plant due to the damage they cause.

In severe infestations, their honeydew (waxy secretions) can stimulate the growth of sooty mold.

Using Complete or Imidor as a seasonal soil drench will control aphids, while Tenazole can be applied to control sooty mould.
Fungal Disease
General 2-3-2(14) 2 kg
Mycoguard 720 500ml
Tenazole Systemic Fungicide 100ml
Roses are vulnerable to various diseases that adversely affect the health and appearance of plants. To get the best results against these diseases, it is important to follow an integrated approach to fungal management. These include the use of fungicides, good practices (such as using disinfected, sharp pruning shears) and the selection of fungus-resistant plants.

Rust causes red or orange spots on the underside of leaves that can lead to leaf drop and reduced flower production. It is important to plant roses in well-draining soil and removing infected leaves when doing so.

Protek’s Copper-Flow-Plus, Mycoguard 720 SC, Tenazole 250 EW and Rose Guard provide effective control of rust.

Black spot causes dark brown or black spots with a yellow border around the leaves. Black spot can be controlled by pruning infected leaves and applying a fungicide. Copper-Flow-Plus, Mycoguard 720 SC, Tenazole 250 EW and Rose Guard provide effective control of black spot.

Botrytis rot causes the rotting of flowers and flower buds leading to a grey-brown fluffy growth. To control botrytis rot, plants should be watered at the base of the plant instead of overhead spraying to avoid their leaves getting wet. Mycoguard 720 SC provides preventive control of botrytis rot.

Powdery mildew causes a white, powdery coating on the leaves, flowers and flower buds. Good air flow around the plants is essential to prevent this. Rose Guard and Tenazole 250 EW can treat plants preventively and correctively against powdery mildew.

By following the guidelines above, you can have a healthy, lush lawn and roses flowering in abundance. A well-maintained garden not only creates a beautiful environment, but also a place to relax with your family and friends. With attention and a little patience, your lawn and roses will flourish and bring years of joy!
