🌼 Pyrostegia venusta

(Flame Vine / Orange Trumpet Vine)

The Pyrostegia venusta – Golden Showers is a spectacular evergreen climber celebrated for its masses of bright orange‑gold trumpet flowers that appear in late summer and continue through winter. This vigorous, fast‑growing vine transforms walls, fences and pergolas into a curtain of colour, making it one of the most striking flowering climbers for South African gardens. Its reliability, long flowering season and low maintenance needs make it a favourite for landscapers and home gardeners alike.

Brilliant Golden‑Orange Flowers

Golden Showers produces dense clusters of tubular, flame‑coloured flowers that completely cover the plant during its peak season. The blooms are rich orange with golden undertones, creating a warm, tropical display that stands out even from a distance. Flowering begins in late summer and continues well into winter, providing colour when most other plants are dormant. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and nectar‑feeding birds, adding life and movement to the garden.

Vigorous Growth and Evergreen Foliage

This climber features lush, deep‑green leaves that remain evergreen throughout the year. It grows quickly, easily covering large areas when supported by trellises, fences or pergolas. Pyrostegia venusta is ideal for screening, shading and decorative vertical gardening. Its strong tendrils allow it to cling naturally to structures, creating a dense, leafy backdrop even when not in bloom.

Hardy, Water‑Wise and Easy to Grow

Golden Showers thrives in full sun and prefers well‑drained soil. It is drought‑tolerant once established and handles heat, wind and light frost with ease. Minimal pruning is required, though trimming after flowering helps maintain shape and encourages fresh growth. This climber performs exceptionally well in both residential and commercial landscapes.
