Description

🌾 Eragrostis elliottii — Elliott’s Love Grass (Ornamental Grass)

Eragrostis elliottii, commonly known as Elliott’s Love Grass, is a graceful, fine‑textured ornamental grass prized for its soft movement, airy seed heads, and elegant fountain‑shaped form. These hardy perennial forms neat clumps of slender blue‑green leaves that sway beautifully in the breeze, bringing a sense of calm, texture, and natural flow to any landscape. In late summer, it produces delicate, cloud‑like plumes that rise above the foliage, creating a shimmering, misty effect that catches the light.

This species thrives in full sun and well‑draining soil, making it an excellent choice for water‑wise, modern, and naturalistic gardens. Eragrostis elliottii performs exceptionally well in rock gardens, gravel gardens, borders, and mass plantings where its soft texture contrasts beautifully with bold, structural plants. It is also ideal for prairie‑style plantings, meadow gardens, and contemporary landscapes that favour movement and lightness.

Once established, this ornamental grass is drought‑tolerant and low maintenance, requiring minimal care throughout the year. Its compact, arching habit makes it suitable for smaller gardens, townhouse spaces, and container plantings, where it adds height, softness, and year‑round structure. The fine foliage remains attractive across seasons, offering visual interest even outside the flowering period.
