Description
🌿 Abelia ‘Francis Mason’ — Golden Evergreen Shrub for Modern Gardens
Abelia ‘Francis Mason’ is a compact evergreen shrub known for its bright golden foliage and neat, rounded shape. Its glossy leaves shift from yellow to lime‑green through the seasons, adding warm colour and contrast to borders, pathways, and mixed beds. The plant keeps a tidy form, which makes it ideal for low‑maintenance gardens and structured landscape designs.
In spring and summer, this golden abelia shrub produces masses of small, fragrant white‑pink flowers. The blooms appear for many months and attract bees, adding movement and softness to the plant’s bold foliage. The flowers stand out beautifully against the warm leaf tones, giving the shrub a refined and elegant look.
This variety grows well in full sun to semi‑shade and adapts to most well‑draining soils. It handles heat with ease and becomes drought‑tolerant once established. These traits make it a reliable choice for South African gardens, commercial landscapes, and water‑wise designs. Whether used as a low hedge, a colourful accent, or a filler shrub, this variegated evergreen performs consistently with very little effort.
Its versatility is one of its strongest features. It works well in both formal and informal gardens and pairs beautifully with other shrubs, grasses, and perennials. The year‑round colour, long flowering season, and compact growth habit make it a favourite among landscapers and home gardeners.
