Description

🌿 Rosmarinus McConnell Blue

Upright, evergreen rosemary cultivar known for its striking steel‑blue foliage, strong fragrance, and compact growth habit. It brings year‑round structure to the garden while offering exceptional culinary value. Because it thrives in sunny, dry conditions, Rosmarinus McConnell Blue is a reliable choice for South African landscapes, herb gardens, and Mediterranean‑style plantings.

🌸 Why Rosmarinus McConnell Blue Stands Out

This rosemary grows best in full sun and performs exceptionally well in well‑drained soil. Its aromatic leaves release a rich, earthy scent whenever you brush past the plant, which makes it perfect for pathways, patios, and outdoor cooking areas. The upright stems are strong enough for skewers and ideal for flavouring roasts, stews, and grilled dishes. In addition, the plant produces soft blue flowers that attract bees and other pollinators, adding movement and life to the garden.

Because it stays evergreen, it keeps your outdoor spaces looking fresh and structured throughout the year. Its steel‑blue foliage also pairs beautifully with warm‑toned gravel, terracotta pots, and drought‑tolerant companions.

🌿 How to Grow and Care for Rosmarinus McConnell Blue

This variety is easy to maintain. Light pruning encourages new growth and helps the plant keep its compact shape. Avoid overwatering, as rosemary prefers drier soil and excellent drainage. With the right care, it becomes a long‑lived shrub that suits both modern and traditional landscapes. Furthermore, rosemary is well documented by horticultural sources such as PlantZAfrica (SANBI), which highlights its ecological and cultural value.
