Description

🌿 Spiraea cantoniensis ‘Flore Pleno’ – Double‑Flower Bridal Wreath Shrub

The Spiraea cantoniensis ‘Flore Pleno’, commonly known as the Double Bridal Wreath Spirea, is a classic ornamental shrub celebrated for its masses of pure‑white, double blooms. Because it flowers so abundantly in late winter and early spring, gardeners love using it to create romantic hedges, soft borders, and eye‑catching focal points. Its arching branches and snow‑white clusters give gardens a timeless, elegant look.

🌸 Distinctive Features

The Spiraea cantoniensis ‘Flore Pleno’ produces dense clusters of fully double, rose‑like white flowers along gracefully arching stems. Each bloom is packed with delicate petals, creating a soft, fluffy appearance. When the shrub is in full bloom, the branches become completely covered, forming a cascading “bridal wreath” effect.

Its foliage is fresh green, fine‑textured, and neatly arranged, providing a beautiful contrast to the bright white flowers. Because the plant grows naturally rounded and arching, it maintains a tidy shape with very little effort.

🌿 Growth & Care

• Light: Full sun to light shade
• Water: Moderate watering; prefers well‑drained soil
• Soil: Loamy, fertile soil with good drainage
• Temperature: Hardy and tolerant of cold; thrives in South African climates
• Growth: Medium‑sized shrub with arching branches
• Maintenance: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape

Because the Spiraea cantoniensis ‘Flore Pleno’ is hardy and adaptable, it performs reliably in South African gardens. Additionally, it tolerates a wide range of soil types and requires minimal care once established. With proper pruning, it produces even more flowers each season.
