Description

🌟 Apricot ‘Palsteyn’ Highlights

  • Fruit: Large, orange apricots with firm, non-melting flesh and excellent flavor—perfect for fresh eating and preserves
  • Pollination: Self-fertile, so it doesn’t require a companion tree, though cross-pollination may enhance yield
  • Harvest Time: End of November, making it a late-season variety
  • Growth Habit: Upright tree reaching 8–10m at maturity; compact enough for home gardens
  • Climate Suitability: Thrives in temperate regions; not ideal for hot, humid zones like Durban

🌱 Cultivation Tips

  • Sunlight: Full sun is essential for fruit production and healthy growth
  • Soil: Prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soil; loosen to 1.5m depth before planting
  • Watering:
    • Every second day for the first week post-transplant
    • Twice weekly in dry/hot weather for 2–3 months
    • Every few weeks in cooler seasons if rainfall is low
  • Mulching: Use 2–5cm pine bark mulch to retain moisture and regulate pH—keep 20–30cm clear around the trunk
  • Fertilizing: Apply slow-release fertilizer every 4–5 months or a balanced 10-10-10 mix in early spring
  • Pruning: Light pruning in spring and autumn to maintain shape and airflow; remove dead/diseased branches promptly
