Citrus Lime West Indian Plant

Description

🍋 Citrus Lime West Indian Plant

🌱 Also known as the Key Lime, is a compact, highly productive citrus variety prized for its strong aroma, zesty flavour, and continuous fruiting habit. This lime is ideal for gardeners who want a reliable, evergreen citrus tree that produces abundantly throughout the year in warm South African climates.

🍋 Fruit Quality

The fruit is small, round, and turns from green to pale yellow when fully ripe. It has a thin, smooth rind and intensely aromatic juice with a bold, tangy flavour. Perfect for:

• Cooking and baking • Cocktails and drinks • Marinades and seafood • Dressings and sauces • Everyday kitchen use

Known for heavy, year‑round production, especially during the warmer months.

☀️ Light Requirements This lime variety thrives in full sun, ideally receiving 6–8 hours of sunlight daily. A warm, bright position ensures strong growth, fragrant blossoms, and consistent fruiting.

💧 Watering & Soil The Citrus Lime West Indian Plant prefers well‑drained, slightly acidic soil enriched with compost. Deep watering during establishment encourages a strong root system. Mulching helps retain moisture and protects the roots during hot weather. Apply a citrus fertilizer in early spring and midsummer to maintain vigour and fruit production.

🌿 Growth Habit & Tree Features This compact citrus forms a rounded canopy with glossy green leaves and highly fragrant white blossoms. It is ideal for gardens, courtyards, and large pots. Light pruning helps maintain shape and airflow. The tree is naturally vigorous and responds well to regular feeding and warm conditions.

🌡️ Climate Suitability The Citrus Lime West Indian Plant thrives in Gauteng’s warm microclimates, as well as coastal, subtropical, and mild inland regions. Protect young trees from frost and cold winds for best results.
