Description
🌳 Prunus Cerasifera Nigra (Purple Leaf Plum)
Also known as the Purple Leaf Plum, is one of the most striking ornamental trees for South African gardens. With its deep burgundy foliage and early spring blossoms, the Prunus Cerasifera Nigra brings year‑round colour, structure, and elegance to any landscape.
🌿 Why the Prunus Cerasifera Nigra Stands Out
The Prunus Cerasifera Nigra is prized for its rich, dark purple leaves that hold their colour throughout the growing season. In late winter to early spring, the tree bursts into masses of soft pink to white blossoms, creating a dramatic contrast against the dark foliage. This makes it a favourite feature tree for entrances, driveways, townhouse gardens, and modern landscapes.
This medium‑sized deciduous tree typically reaches 5–7 m in height with a neat, rounded crown. It grows well in most South African climates and performs beautifully in both residential and commercial landscapes.
